Spellbound - Glowworm & Cave Tours Waitomo's Best Glowworm Experience
About the tour

Our tour is 3–3.5 hours long.

We begin with a shuttle pick-up from the Waitomo Caves Village which takes you 11 km to a valley where the caves are located. We give commentary and scenery along the way is stunning.

The tour takes place on a sheep and cattle farm where the limestone outcrops and gorges are lovely and interesting. A short walk takes you into a gorge and down to the mouth of the Glowworm Cave.

Put on your helmet and lights

and venture into this 'astonishing cave'. Our Glowworm tour provides a close-up look at glowworms and lots of interesting interpretation is given about them. One of the specialties of the tour is our boat ride of around 20–30 minutes giving everyone enough time to allow their eyes to adjust to the delicate glowworm lights. The glowworms are just above you and very bright. Altogether our unparalleled glowworm tour gives you 40 minutes under glowworms!

Then its time to recharge your batteries with a short break in the bright outside world. Hot drinks and biscuits and time for a chat are all provided.

Then take the next short walk on the tour which leads you along an intriguing dry gorge to the grand natural entrance of Te Ana o Te Atua (Cave of the Spirit). In this beautifully presented cave you see fossil bones, cave decorations and daylight softly slanting down through many ceiling entrances (or 'tomo' as they are known locally).

The shuttle drive back to Waitomo Village takes you along a different route (so your guide doesn't have to repeat themselves!). Arriving back in Waitomo we recommend that you take a look around the acclaimed Waitomo Museum of Caves.
